Absorbing the buzz in Temple Bar, Dublin

Having flown in from Amsterdam a few hours before Marcel’s flight from Nice, I thought I’d check out the city – first up, the Guinness Storehouse – so impressive and then I meandered over to Temple Bar.

The city layout is fairly straightforward, especially if you’ve got a map from the tourist desk at the airport, and I’d googled it beforehand. I was ready to discover real Irish pubs … and wandered how different they’d be to other Irish pubs in foreign countries, like South Africa.

The first signboard I came across made me wish my Dude was with me even more. A frustrated beer lover in wine country, he would simply adore this!!

I walked around various streets, and peeked into different bars, restaurants and pubs, but they didn’t seem to match my mood. Eventually I found one on a square next to young musicians and got myself a spot to enjoy the street scene. The vibe was youthful and energetic, and the buskers very talented.

To honour the Dude, I ordered his favourite … a cheeseburger. And a Guinness. Pity his flight came in so late and we still had a journey to get to the Wicklow Mountains to meet up with our buds.

We’re just going to have to come back for a weekend, and get to know the place better. And sample their famous beverages together.
