Our global mission (one we gladly choose to accept) is to raise the common misconception that we cannot rise to the level of a wine connoisseur. While beer is equally steeped in tradition and craftsmanship, somehow, the image of the beer guy – like me – is we are unable to appreciate a complex wine like a Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The 1959, of course.
Our beer compendium celebrates all aspects of beer with a not-so-serious exploration into the world’s most under-acknowledged beverage. We’ll go on a lighthearted adventure into the cultural significance, scoop up some history, and learn fun facts, and jokes, and there are some tests of knowledge. And through it all, we’ll try to stay on topic and keep it flowing (pun alert).
What’s inside?
This book is intended as a fun way to share the passion and act as fuel for thought, so I hope it serves as an inspiration to go out and discover more about this fascinating and rich topic.
If you want to learn about some beer basics, like types of beer, the ingredients, history and the brewing process, you’re in the right place. We’ll have you talking like a brewmaster by page 55.
Craft Beer – the Indie music vibe of the brewing world. We’ll cast an eye on some crafty styles, cool breweries and developing trends out there. Homebrewing 101. It’s easier than you think, but also harder than you think.
For the history buff, the homebrewer, the craft connoisseur, or if you’re just here for the jokes, well, I hope there’s something here for everyone. We’ll have a laugh or two as well. We’ve got beer trivia, jokes, puzzles, and more.
Did you know the world’s strongest beer has an ABV of 67.5%?! I sure didn’t – that’s some high-octane rocket fuel right there. Pass the whiskey glass…
Wine pairing has been a thing for a long time, but beer isn’t just for drinking, either. We include some ways to pair beer with food, maybe cook up a storm with recipe ideas, or channel your inner barman to mix up some beer cocktails. Yes, beer cocktails are a thing (some are a little bit left-field but worth a try).
We’ve got Egyptian pharaohs, medieval monks, and the industrial revolution in here. We’ll do a bit of time travel to explore the origins, from ancient Mesopotamia (where beer was basically invented) to modern-day craft breweries. Then, when you’re ready, test your knowledge with some beer trivia questions, or fire away at your buddies in pub quiz style.
