Provence sabbatical day 9 – la terrasse du soleil
I woke up early to get some bookkeeping done. What do you mean it’s Saturday? Really? Patricia collected me around 11 am for our stroll down to the village
Muddy Boots, our beloved Land Rover 90, joined us in 2010. What a crazy adventure we had together, from the forests in Croatia to meeting our Landy Guru, Rob Stewart. It was gut-wrenching to discover we weren’t allowed to import him into France due the many rules, like conforming to the manufacturer’s original spec, and had to part ways in Holland in 2015. Some months later, we were happy to welcome Dakota in the fold, a Land Rover 110 who is more travelled than we are!

Just how far would you be able to drag a (fairly) basic Land Rover into the Croatian bush?
The final day of the Croatia Trophy! And an excellent roadbook that has it all – riverbeds, steep winchpoints and very fast logging tracks
OUR FIRST FINISH!! A very long 75 km roadbook today, but everyone is getting their groove now. Good navigation and some challenging winch points
It’s hard to describe the feeling out there in the mud: Awesome or mind-blowing doesn’t quite do it justice. You’re out on the track in the middle of a forest all day long and YOU need to drag the car back to camp!
F1 in mud! A chance to drive as fast as you can/like!! Mad power and flat out along a challenging circuit, tyre change, floor it! Great fun!
Pitch black, narrow twig-lined tunnels. Branches thwacking off the windscreen. Ducking in the car to avoid getting whipped. No bearings whatsoever
Team Trophy day is great fun for the spectators – the action is very close, especially the spattering mud, winching and hard revving engines…
Our baptism of fire as the competition gets off to a challenging start! A long and confusing roadbook and the scene of the infamous ‘Carwash’!
The adrenaline level is high. The start signal goes off. I gas it… Some kamikaze runs at the hill… but eventually the winch is deployed
Staro Selo – setting up camp, checking the car (again) and the most difficult of all – calibrating the Terratrip!
