There’s something so romantic about sailing vessels like this gorgeous Elena. A beauty from 1928 who was rebuilt in 2009 and is active on the racing circuit. She is captained by Steve McLaren who was part of the Elena project, after his seasons aboard Eleanora. When she’s not racing, Schooner Elena can be chartered for private functions and cruising.

During the sailing regatta, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, we were invited onboard the magnificent superyacht after the race. Her incredible size hits you as you’re ready to embark; being relieved of your shoes.

We were greeted warmly with a chilled glass of rosé in the setting sun.

Elena’s history is incredible. From the get-go, she won most of the schooner races, and in 1928 her crowning glory was winning the Trans-Atlantic race.

In 2009, Elena was rebuilt with meticulous care and attention to detail by Factoria Naval Marin (read Elena – a legend returns).

Our host had to dash off to a prior engagement so we thanked him for accommodating us in such style. Our shoes back on, we popped into Hotel Sube for a ‘piscine’ or two. Don’t you agree that ‘swimming pool’ is a perfect description for a giant glass of rosé served with ice? A bite to eat afterwards at the Moroccan restaurant went down a treat too.

What an epic day! Merci beaucoup !
